Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence against Women (Belém do Pará Convention) in Child- and Adolescent- Friendly Version (MESECVI, IIN, CIM, UNFPA, Canada, 2026)
Overview
Girls and adolescents experience violence in their everyday lives, in the spaces they inhabit, and increasingly through digital platforms and social media. To address this reality, they need information that is accessible, relevant, and presented in language they can understand—so they can recognize these forms of violence, understand their rights, and know how to respond.
To help meet this need, the MESECVI, the Inter-American Children’s Institute (IIN), and the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), with the support of UNFPA and the Government of Canada, developed this child- and adolescent- friendly version of the Belém do Pará Convention, the region’s principal legal instrument for guaranteeing the right of women and girls to live free from violence.
The publication was co-created with girls and boys from ten countries across the region, whose experiences and perspectives helped shape a resource designed to make information about rights more accessible to children and adolescents.
