Inter-American Model Law to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Gender-Based Digital Violence against Women (MESECVI, 2025)
Overview
In a regional and global context marked by the steady rise of digital violence against women, this Inter-American Model Law serves as a key tool to guide a comprehensive, regulatory, and multi-stakeholder response to the protection of women’s human rights.
Developed by the Committee of Experts, the instrument recognizes digital violence as part of the continuum of gender-based violence that disproportionately and differentially affects women, adolescents, and girls.
The Model Law establishes obligations for States, as well as for digital platforms and internet intermediaries, promoting accountability, transparency, and the narrowing of the gender digital divide — all from a human rights-based, gender-sensitive, intersectional, and culturally relevant approach.
