General Recommendation of the Committee of Expert of the MESECVI (nº6): On the use of stereotypes that compromise the integrity of justice systems. (MESECVI, 2024)
Overview
The Committee of Experts has frequently referred to the issue of gender stereotypes and their impact on all the areas in which women and girls develop their lives. Such stereotypes have been identified as generators of inequality since they perpetuate social beliefs that are discriminatory to women, thus generating various obstacles that impede women’s effective access to justice.
The purpose of this General Recommendation is to create an analytical framework through which the progress and challenges made by the States Parties in relation to the use of stereotypes in the administration of justice can be evaluated.
