COVID-19 in Women's Lives: Reasons to Recognize Differential Impacts
The emergency derived from COVID-19 is causing specific impacts on women and deepening existing gender inequalities, both within homes and outside of them, in hospitals and health centers, at work and also in politics. The challenge of governments and international organizations to guide policies that seek equality in mitigation and recovery from this crisis, may open an opportunity for these to be appropriate and effective, to the extent that they respond to the needs of all the population, including women. The region has the opportunity for new pacts, new alliances and new perspectives that compensate for the certainties that are falling by advancing with the paradigm of equality. In this direction, the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the OAS, with the objective of supporting the Member States, presents the publication COVID-19 in the lives of women: Reasons to recognize the differentiated impacts with information and arguments on the differentiated impacts, where the challenges and actions to develop policies that respond to the differentiated needs of the population are analyzed, focusing on gender impacts and the needs of women.
