Report of the Technical Assistance Visit on the Human Rights Situation of Women and Girls in the Catatumbo Subregion (MESECVI, 2026)
Overview
This report presents the findings and recommendations resulting from the technical assistance visit carried out by the Committee of Experts of the MESECVI to Colombia from 9 to 13 February 2026. The mission aimed to assess the human rights situation of women and girls in the Catatumbo subregion amid the escalation of armed violence and the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Based on testimonies gathered from women, civil society organizations, public authorities, and institutions, and international organizations, the report documents structural and differentiated patterns of gender-based violence, including sexual violence, trafficking, recruitment of women and girls, digital violence, and attacks against women leaders and human rights defenders. It also examines gaps and challenges in the institutional response and puts forward recommendations to the Colombian State in line with the Belém do Pará Convention and applicable Inter-American human rights standards.
