Overview
The right to live a life free of gender-based violence requires a series of guarantees on the part of States. These obligations include guaranteeing the safety of women who experience episodes of violence or are at serious risk to their physical integrity or life through access to shelters or safe houses.
This study, prepared by the MESECVI Committee of Experts, with support from the European Union’s EUROsocial Program and the Follow-up Mechanism, analyzes the regulatory framework for shelters in various Latin American countries, their capacities, distribution and challenges, such as the lack of resources and comprehensive services. It also identifies good practices and proposes recommendations to strengthen these public policies and ensure dignified and effective support to victims.
